The Ruminative Thinkers

Islam has never asked someone to stop thinking and Islam promotes people to use their minds to look at the universe and the creation of Allah. There is also a Hadith by Prophet Muhammad SAW which indicates people to satisfy and make use of your mind to do good deeds or otherwise. Thus, that is the function of a mind which is to clear any confusions on these matters. Mind is tied with the senses of human like eyes to see, nose to smell, ear to listen and mouth to talk. For instance, what the hearing faculty can do the smelling faculty cannot, and what the eyes can see the others cannot. As we see a plane flying in the sky, looks very little, if we use only our eyes and not mind, it will be that the plane is small like a bird. But here, we use our mind and say 'no' since the plane is at a certain height that is why we see it small otherwise it is huge. As in this example, there comes one point where the boundary of eye's action ends and the boundary of mind's action begins. Likewise, there is one point where certainly the human mind fails. This is a common idea every sane believes in. In short, we have to be careful with what our eyes are looking at, what our noses are attracting to, what conversation our ears are listening to and what words are come out from our mouth. Everything will be countable in the Hereafter.

“Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well and that if they do wrong you will do wrong. But (instead) accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong if they do evil.”
——— Prophet Muhammad (s) as reported in Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1325.

That is the reason we created this blog and specifically named it "The Ruminative Thinkers". Ruminate means thinking very deeply and carefully about something whereas thinker is what we are always wanted to be. Thus we hope to be a thinker who is not merely thinking but pondering deep into something. Insya Allah, this will helps us to know better about our Creator and be grateful of all the things He has provided. It also fits with the visions of IIUM which is to produces graduates who are excellent and comprehensive in both worldly and spiritual knowledge and that is what we are going to be. Thinking should not be limited to worldly matters but it should covers both worlds, duniaya and akhirat. This is the Islamic thinking.
